When Motorola sought a partner to help design the next generation of irrigation control systems, it leveraged WAC's knowledge of integrating embedded mobile devices with web-based software. The two companies jointly developed the ControlPort* irrigation terminal and website that allows irrigation systems to be controlled via a web browser or a mobile device.
Based on Motorola irrigation controllers, ControlPort* enables central control of irrigation anywhere in the world via cellular communication and the Internet. This eliminates the need for software field installations, and allows the irrigation controllers to be programmed from a virtual central system. ControlPort* reduces irrigation systems operational costs, prevents water runoffs, increases water conservation and allows adaptation of irrigation to variable weather conditions.
The ControlPort* system is remarkably easy to use, both in setting up irrigation control devices, and in ongoing configuration and control. By supporting multiple carriers, the system gives the backstage much needed flexibility in selecting the wireless provider. Currently, the system supports CDPD, ReFLEX and GPRS wireless networks.
WAC provides the website portal services for ControlPort* in the USA (http://www.controlport.com) and for IrriPortalTM in Europe (http://www.irriportal.com), which both allow different levels of access. For example, an backstage can set up new devices, but an ordinary user cannot do so. Other features of the sites include triggering alerts and a broad reporting system.
